DeCluttering after Christmas

Alright tell the truth.... how many of you still have residue of Christmas left in a corner of your room?  Or maybe you haven't even begun the process of "Operation Christmas Cleanup", and that's on your weekend to-do list.  The holidays are a wonderful time of year, but often the clean up can be a bit overwhelming.
If you are one of the ones who are just getting ready to tackle the Christmas Clutter, here are a few tips to help you organize your new Steere Home Builders home!
1. Storage Bins are your friend! - keeping decorations in their original packages is often impractical and takes up much more space in the room than it needs to.  Utilizing storage bins that stack on top of each other will allow more space in your storage and keep things neat and tidy.  Short of space in storage? Try under the bed storage bins!
2. Plastic garbage bags keep decorations dust free! At our home, we wrap our wreaths and small trees with garbage bags to keep them free of dust and debris when they are in storage.  This ensures that next year, they will be as beautiful as they are this year!
3. Sort through the junk.  Be honest with yourself.  The decorations you purchased in 1982, you are not using anymore.  And that blue tinsel has got to go.  Donate your unused decorations to Goodwill or Trinkets and Togs to make more room for your treasures.  This is a great opportunity to teach your children about giving to others.
4. Don't feel obligated to keep something you don't like.  Did Aunt Susie give you a plastic snowman that you have never really liked?  But, you feel obligated to keep it?  Are the wooden Santa and Mrs. Claus just taking up space in your storage spot?  Relieve some stress from your life and go ahead and donate them to your local Goodwill to.  Free your mind of guilt by knowing that someone will love those treasures, even if it isn't you!
Of course, the above only outlines the basics of organization.  A finished basement, specialized storage areas, separate rooms are good topics for the future.  To check out floor plans and more storage options that Steere Home Builders can provide, visit here or here.  We can also work with a drawing you sketch out!
